Open Rava Sandwich / Rava Toast / Sooji Toast

Open Rava Sandwich or Rava Toast, is one of my favorite breakfasts or snack recipes because it’s very simple and quick to prepare and tastes really yummy. Made with minimal ingredients, in less than 10 minutes, it can be an useful option if you are in hurry. This also can be a good tiffin box recipe for kids. This homely sandwich is a bachelor’s paradise, who are mostly bored by eating bread-butter regularly.

  • Slices bread, white, whole wheat or brown -6
  • Medium sized onion, finely chopped – 1
  • Medium sized tomato, finely chopped -1
  • Green chili, finely chopped – 2 [ optional ] [for kids, replace green chili with red chili powder]
  • Chopped coriander leaves
  • Small Capsicum – 1
  • Cabbage , finely chopped – 3 tbsp [you can add any veggies like carrot ,potato,sweet corn etc]
  • Sooji / Rava/ – 1 cup
  • Curd/yogurt -1/4,1/2 cup
  • Salt as required
  • Chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Cumins powder – 1tsp
  • Garam masala -1/2 tsp
  • Chat masala -1/2 tsp
Steps :
  1. Roast the rava / suji / sooji in a pan till it turns slightly pink in color.
  2. Chop the vegetables, onions, green capsicum, tomatoes, cabbage, fresh green coriander leaves, green chilies [optional]
  3. Now in a mixing bowl take all chopped veggies, add the roasted rava
  4. Add chili powder, cumins powder,chat masala,garam masala and salt and curd.Do not add any water
  5. The vegetable mixture is now ready
  6.  Now take 4 pieces of bread or and apply a gentle amount of vegetable mixture using spoon. Repeat for all.
  7. Apply oil or butter on the top side of bread slices. Do sprinkle some Italian herbs.
  8. Heat empty tawa for some time and then place the filled side down and cook them till the color changes to light brown.
  9. Turn over and toast the bread on the other side. You can flip once or twice and cook more if required.
  10. Slice the sandwich into triangular pieces.
  11. Serve the rava sandwich slices hot with green chutney or tomato ketchup.
