Instant Oats Dosa

This is a healthy Dosa variant and feels pretty light! The crispy texture goes well with the chutney and one can easily finish 6-7 dosas in single serving, so be prepared!!!

  • Quick cooking oats – 3/4 cup
  • Rava – 1/4 cup
  • Rice flour – 1/2 cup
  • Ginger (finely chopped) – 2 tsp
  • Green chillies (chopped) – 2 pcs
  • Black peppers (crushed) – 1/4 tsp
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Sour curd – 1/2 cup
  • Water – 2 cups + 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Oil or ghee as required for roasting the dosa


  1. Grind oats in a grinder and grind until you get smooth powder texture
  2. Take all dry ingredients in bowl [rava, rice flour, powder oats , green chilies, ginger, onion, cumin seeds, coriander leaves, crushed black pepper, salt] and mix well
  3. In a bowl take 1/2 cup curd and 1 cup and more water mix well
  4. Add this butter milk in dry ingredients
  5. Mix it well and make sure there are no lumps formed.
  6. Slowly, add one more cup of water and give a proper mix
  7. Add onion, ginger, chillies, pepper and coriander. Mix well
  8. Add more water to adjust the consistency of the batter. It should be watery else the dosa will not be crisp.
  9. I actually added 4 tbsp water later
  10. Keep aside for 20 minutes.
  11. Heat a non stick dosa pan. It should be really hot.
  12. Smear with a bit of oil using fabric
  13. Then pour the batter, first to form a outer circle and then fill in the centre

  15. Add a tsp of oil/ butter over it. Let it cook on medium flame until the dosa browns to a golden colour.
  16. Let the base becomes crisp. There is no need to cook the other side as the dosa is thin.
  17. Remove the dosa from the pan. Serve with peanut chutney or coconut chutney
