Desi Roti Burger!

I wonder why Burger was not invented in India! McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Subway.. the list is endless. Nevertheless, we now have Desi version of burger made from roti!  There is a hidden twist in Roti…! You will find out soon! It’s so yummy that the taste is still haunting me from past two days, yet there is no food chain on this!

Cooking Time:  20 minutes
Complexity :   Very Easy




For Patty:
  • Potatoes (boiled and mashed) – 4
  • Paneer (scrambled) – 1/2 cup
  • Onion (finely chopped) – 1
  • Onion (thinly sliced) – 3
  • Capsicum (finely chopped) – 2 tbsp
  • Corn cornels (boiled) – 4 tbsp
  • Garlic ginger paste – 1 tsp
  • Green chilis (finely chopped) – 3 to 4
  • Chat masala – 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala – 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice or Vinegar – 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Black pepper – 1/8 tsp
  • Dry mango powder (amchur powder) – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt & water – as needed

For Small Roti:

  • Wheat flour – 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Salt & water – as needed
  • Mango pickle – 3 tbsp
For Chutney:
  • Mayonnaise – 4 tbsp
  • Green chutney – 1 tbsp


For Spring onion mixture:
  1. In a bowl add thinly sliced onions
  2. Add chilli powder, vinegar and mix well
  3. Keep it aside
For Chutney:
  1. In a bowl add mayonnaise and green chutney, mix well
  2. Keep it aside

For Patty:

  1. In a bowl add mashed potatoes, scrambled paneer, chopped capsicum, onions, boiled corn, green chilis and chopped coriander leaves
  2. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, chili powder, garam masala, chat masala, amchur powder, salt and black pepper
  3. Mix well
  4. Make patty
  5. The size of the patty should be same as the size of small paratha
  6. Heat oil in a tawa until it becomes medium hot, gently place the patties and fry them
  7. When one side of patty becomes golden and crisp, turn over and fry the other side of patty
  8. Once done, then drain the patty on paper towels to remove excess oil
  9. Patty is ready

For Roti:

  1. Knead a dough with flour, salt, equired quantity of water. Cover and keep aside for 30 minutes
  2. Divide into 3 equal portions
  3. Roll each portion into a circle
  4. Spread 1 tbsp of the pickle masala on it and sprinkle some flour over it
  5. Roll the roti into a cylindrical shape and cut in to 6 pieces
  6. Now, take each piece and flatten it gently
  7. Dust some flour over it and roll again into a small round shape (like poori)
  8. Follow the same steps for rest of the pieces
  9. Heat a tawa and shallow fry each roti on both sides by drizzling some oil over it
  10. Now rotis are ready

For Assembling Desi Roti Burger:

  1. Place small roti on a plate
  2. Keep one patty on it
  3. Spread 1 tbsp chutney on patty
  4. Place spring onions mixture on top of chutney
  5. Cover with other roti
  6. The burger is ready. Serve hot
